Academic buildings of 16 colleges in Sunamganj to be completed in Dec

SYLHET, July 09: Construction of 16 colleges has been nearing completion in different upazilas of Sunamganj district.

The works for construction of 4-storey buildings began in 2016 with a total targeted cost of Tk 350 million with a view to meeting their long standing requirement for accommodation of the increasing number of students. Hopefully these would be completed in December this year, an official informed.

The colleges include Jawa Bazaar College and Govindaganj Abdul Haque Smriti College in Chhatak upazila, Doarabazar College and Somuj Ali High School & College in Doarabazar upazila, Jamaganj Degree College in Jamalganj upazila, Badaghat College in Tahirpur upazila, Jogonnathpur Degree College, Shahjalal College and Syedpur Adarsha College in Jogonnathpur upazila, Bibiyana Model College and Jogdol College in Derai upazila, Shulla College in Shulla upazila and Dharmapasha Degree College and Badshaganj Degree College in Dharmapasha upazila.

These are under the government's programme for establishing ICT facilities on 1500 colleges countrywide.

Besides, works on 3 more colleges under the same project would soon be started, the official added. These include Madhyanagar BP High School & College in Dharmapasha, Islamganj Degree College in Sadar upazila and Derai Degree College in Derai upazila. Alongside the required facilities, these institutions would have ICT room, ramp for the differently able ones, lightning resistant tool etc.

An official at the Education Engineering Department said the 15 colleges would be made over to the college authorities by December this year.
