All homes in three Jamalpur villages to come under BARI mango farming

JAMALPUR, July 24 (BSS): Homestead of all houses in three villages under Jamalpur Sadar will come under BARI variety mango cultivation under a project undertaken by Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS).

The project has been taken under 'eco- friendly integrated pest management of mango' programme of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI).

Under the project saplings of BARI variety of mango will be planted in the homestead of every house in Chithalia, Banda Chithalia and Muskonipara villages of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, officials said.

Director of the project Dr MA Mannan said saplings will be distributed among 600 farmers in the three villages. The project has been taken with a primary objective of meeting nutrition demand of the local people.

Under the project each farmer will get one BARI Aam-3 (Amropali), one BARI Aam-4, BARI Peyara-2 and BARI Lebu-4 from the RARS.

RARS sources said BARI mango-3 and BARI mango-4 are delicious fruit. Per hectare yield of the each variety is about 20 metric tonnes. A mango of BARI mango-3 is 210-220 gram while a mango of BARI mango-4 is about 600 gram.

Under the research allocation project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, all farmers will get training on cultivation of BARI variety mango in phases.
