Aromatic rice farming increasing in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Aug 26: Cultivation of aromatic rice is increasing in the district.

DAE sources some 3,100 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of the paddy variety with the production target of 9,000 tonnes.

Kalijira, Chinigura and Basmati are popular among the growers in the area.

Ultra-thin aromatic paddy is traditionally cultivated in neighbouring Dinajpur district on vast tract of land every year.

Cultivation of the same is increasing mainly in Nilphamari Sadar which is attached with Dinajpur and soil of Nilphamari district is also suitable for its cultivation.

Sources said prices of such paddy varieties are also high in the market. Ultra thin aromatic paddy is being sold at Tk 2,000 per maund in the market.
