BOGURA, June 27: Farmers of the district have started harvesting early arum.

Sources said growers are delighted over the good production and high market price of the produce.

Each kg of arum is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 at the kitchen market in the district.

Traders from different adjacent districts are now visiting the area to purchase the vegetable from the farmers directly.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), some 1,200 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation of arum in the district with the production target of 1,000 tonnes.

The district is suitable for growing the popular vegetable, DAE sources added.

"I have cultivated arum on 14 decimals of land spending Tk 2,000 and got some eight maunds of the yield, said farmer Bulbul Islam of Shibganj upazila.

He again said, "I sold some seven maunds of arum at Tk 9,600 in Mohasthan Haat recently and made a profit of Tk 7,600."
