Authority suspends construction of eight godowns for two months

SYLHET, May 06: Works on the construction of eight godowns of the food department remained suspended for two months. Under a countrywide project, the food directorate started the works on these in January 2016 with a target to storing 4,000 tonnes of foodgrain. Each of the godowns would have a capacity of 500 tonnes, an official said, adding, the project is set to be completed by June this year.

Among those, four are being built in Mallikpour area of the district town and rest of the four are at Jamalganj, Chhatak, Madhyanagar and at Doarabazar upazilas.

District Controller of Food, Sunamganj, Md Zakaria Mostafa said the higher authorities have already been informed about the situation.

Sources however alleged contractor's negligence had caused the delay. Although the works are set to be completed by June, it may not be possible for reasons, sources apprehended.
