NILPHAMARI, June 25: The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh and the Department of Livestock Services have been jointly conducting repeated research on 'Black Bengal' (BB) goat of Nilphamari origin for years.

Sources said in the initial research artificial insemination was pursued.

But this time another research on finding out hybrid quality of the goat variety is going on.

Sources said hybrid Black Bengal goat would attain 9.0 kg weight in three month and 25 kg in a year while local Black Bengal ones attain 4.0 kg to 5.0 kg in four month.

Initially the programme envisaged artificial insemination, production and preservation of frozen semen of Black Bengal goats.

The research was on progress in the reproductive bio-technology lab of the university.

One BB goat gives birth to three to four lambs at a time and twice in a year.

It produces 500 gram to one kg milk everyday.

The skin of the goat is also valuable.

Abdur Rahman, a Black Bengal rearer of Itakhola union under Nilphamari Sadar said this year one of his goats gave birth to four lambs at a time.
