LALMONIRHAT, Sept 07 (UNB): The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local students of Lalmonirhat pitched in to do roadworks near the border at Lalmonirhat Patgram on Saturday.

They carried out repair and restoration work on the damaged roads leading to and from the Dharla River's Jora Bridge in Jongra Union of Patgram Upazila.

According to BGB and locals, the roads serving Jora Bridge had become unusable due to erosion caused by the river. Approximately 120 feet of the road's approach on both sides of the bridge had collapsed, creating severe transportation difficulties for about 10-12,000 residents and students from 10 surrounding neighborhoods. The damage also hindered the movement of all types of vehicles, including emergency patient transport. The effort also involved planting over 50 trees and placing grass turfing for stabilisation.

Upon becoming aware of the situation, BGB, under the direction of the Rangpur Sector, initiated the repair work through the 61 BGB Battalion. With the support of local students and residents, the repair work included the construction of about 335 feet of palisade, 15,000 cubic feet of earth filling, two side drains, and other necessary road surfacing.

Local dignitaries, students, and various BGB officials were present during the repair activities.
