A total of eight persons were killed in separate road accidents in Bogura, Habiganj and Gaibandha districts on Saturday, reports BSS.
In Bogura, five people including a man and his daughter were killed in separate road accidents in Kahalu, Gabtoli and Sadar upazilas of the district on Saturday.
In Kahalu upazila, three people were killed when a truck hit an auto-rickshaw van from behind in Dargahat area of the upazila around 9.30 am. They died on the spot, said Sahinuzzaman Sahin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kahalu Police Station.
The deceased were identified as M Faruk, 40, a resident of Narhat area of the upazila, his daughter Humayra, 7, and auto-rickshaw driver Sahinur Rahman, 40.
In Gabtoli upazila, a housewife was killed after falling from a motorcycle and being crushed under the wheels of a truck in Sukhanpukur area of the upazila this morning, said OC Asiq Iqbal of Gabtoli Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Reshmi Khatun, wife of Jubaer Hossain, a resident of Baliadighi-Kalaihata area of the upazila.
In Sadar upazila, a mentally disabled man was killed when a train hit him in Naruli area in the district town around 10 am, said Inspector Nazmul, in- charge of Naruli Police Camp.
The deceased was identified as M Farid, 36, son of Sirajul hailed from Sariakandi upazila of the district.
Separate cases were filed with respective police stations in those connections.
In Habiganj, a man was killed and three others injured in a road accident in Kalardoba area under
Banischong upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Jony Miah, 26, son of Sahid Miah, a resident of Muslimpur village under Kaliajuri upazila in Netrakona district.
The accident took place in the area around 1:00 pm when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with another one, leaving four passengers of both vehicles injured, said Alamgir Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Habiganj Sadar Police Station.
The injured were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where Jony succumbed to his injuries, he said.
In Gaibandha, a motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a covered van in Pantapara area on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway under Gobindaganj upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, son of Alkad Hossain, a resident of Chandrahata village under Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat district.
The accident took place when a covered van hit a motorbike in the area at noon, leaving its rider Anwar dead on the spot, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Highway Thana Mozaffar Hossain.
In Gazipur, a college student was killed and another injured as a truck hit their motorcycle in the city's Targachha area on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Asif Adnan, 20, a student of Kabi Nazrul Government College and son of Amin Sharif, a resident of Raipur upazila in Laxmipur district.
