BOGURA, Jan 02: Sajina growers in the district are expecting to make profit of Tk 20 million this season.

Trees of the vegetable began flowering from the last week amid suitable weather conditions.

From the beginning of the season, peasants along with local DAE have taken initiative to make the farming programme a success.

The trees have been flowered massively predicting abundant production due to favourable weather condition, said sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman.

In a recent visit in different areas this correspondent found there are over 40,000 sajina trees in all the 12 upazilas of the district.

Some growers are also producing the popular and tasty vegetable on a commercial basis.

Harvest may start from March, the official added.

Farmer Raiqul Islam of Dupchanchia upazila said the farmers are taking care of the trees with an expectation of a bumper yield.

DAE official sources said the department has provided all necessary support to the farmers in this connection.
