Boro farming starts in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Jan 20: Cultivation of Boro paddy has started in Nilphamari and it would continue for another next two months or so. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said this year 79,443 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of Boro with the production target of 329671 tonnes. Out of which hybrid one on 26710 hectares of land to produce 1,26,015 tonnes and HYV on 52,733 hectares of land to produce 3,29,671 tonnes.

Sources said almost all land are prepared by using power tiller and tractor.

DAE sources said a total of 300 deep tubewells, 29633 shallow tubewells, 33 power pumps and 1232 irrigation machineries of Teesta Irrigation Project are being used for irrigating Boro land in the district.

Farmer sources said there is no shortage of fertilisers and diesel and the price is affordable to the peasants.

Abdur Rahman, a farmer of Itkhola union under Sadar upazila, said he would cultivate Boro on 100 decimals of land out of which Hybrid on 70 decimals of land and HYV on 30 decimals of land.
