The harvest of Boro paddy has started in Sylhet region with paddy on over 111,266 hectares of land harvested so far amid favourable weather this season.
About 25.6 per cent of Boro paddy has been harvested so far, officials said.
Meanwhile, the target of IRRI-Boro paddy harvest has been fixed at 594,161 tonnes of paddy in Gaibandha.
Our Sylhet Correspondent reports, 39.50 per cent Boro crop has already been harvested in haor region and 7.5 per cent in non-haor areas.
Boro paddy was cultivated on 497,000 hectares of land in Sylhet division. Its harvest is going on in all the four districts.
A crop cutting function was held at dekhar haor in Sunamganj Sadar upazila on 10 April with the agriculture advisor as chief guest.
Bimol Chandra Shome, Sylhet divisional additional director at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), told this correspondent that the harvest of Boro crop has already started all over the region.
DAE officials said the farmers in remote areas in the haor (low-lying areas) had already been asked to harvest the paddy as soon as possible to avoid any trouble due to possible rains or stormy weather.
They had been asked to harvest in the lower region by 26 April. As a common practice, college and varsity students of the haor areas had also been at their houses to help families to help the harvest.
Meanwhile, the use of combine harvesters had already been increased with about 2000 machines being used in the division. But about 900 machines are being used in Sunamganj district only, informed the additional Director of DAE.
Our Correspondent from Gaibandhja writes, according to sources at the Gaibandha DAE this season, 129,020 hectares of land has been cultivated under the cultivation of IRRI-Boro paddy.
Among them, 21 thousand 296 hectares in Gaibandha Sadar upazila, 15 thousand 650 hectares of Sadullapur upazila in Palashbari upazila, 12 thousand 671 hectares in Govindganj upazila, 31 thousand 120 hectares in Sundarganj upazila 26 thousand 722 hectares in Saghata upazila 14 thousand 185 hectares in Fulsory upazila 7 thousand 303 hectares.
The farmers of the upazila of the district have already started harvesting in some places in the area of
IRRI-Boro paddy. The IRRI-Boro paddy contains hybrids, wings, and local varieties.
In this regard, the Department of Agricultural Extension of Gaibandha has conducted paddy cultivation, crop management, specific use of fertilisers, preservation of good quality seeds and modern technology training for the cultivation of IRRI-Boro rice cultivation.

The production target of IRRI-Boro paddy in Gaibandha has been fixed at 594,161 tonnes.
This production has been cultivated on 129,020 hectares of land to achieve the target level.
Due to the weather is good, the yield of the rice is good this time. The farmers are satisfied with this.
