Boro procurement begins in districts

SHERPUR, May 21 (BSS): The government started Boro procurement directly from the farmers in the districts on Tuesday aiming to ensure fair prices of the staple food.

Whip Atiur Rahman Atiq formally inaugurated Boro paddy collection at a function at Sherpur Sadar upazila warehouse.

On the occasion, Atiur said, "The public procurement campaign will ensure fair prices of Boro paddy… Farmers will be happy with getting fair price of paddy."

District Food Control Office sources said collection target of Boro rice has been fixed at 29,373 tonnes. Of the targeted rice, 27,930 tonnes are boiled rice and 1443 tonnes atap rice. The paddy collection will continue till August 31, they added.

Deputy Director of Local government Division (LGD) ATM Ziaul Islam, representatives from local government bodies and officials, among others, were present at the function with District Food Controller Md Farhad Khandakar in the chair.

Report from Natore adds: District Food Office, in cooperation with district administration ,today started Boro paddy procurement directly from the farmers for ensuring fair prices of the staple food.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Shahriaz formally inaugurated the food procurement programme at a function at Kafuria union under Sadar upazila in the district.

District Food Controller Shafiqul Islam said price of paddy has been fixed per mound at Tk 1,040.

The DC said, "We are purchasing paddy from farmers, particularly marginal ones to ensure fair prices of their paddy."

The Department of Agricultural Extension sources said the country has witnessed bumper boro yielding as the government has provided all necessary support including agri-input to the farmers for Boro paddy cultivation.

The government has taken initiative of Boro paddy procurement so that growers can get fair prices.

In Khulna: Upazila Food Office in cooperation with local administration today started Boro paddy procurement directly from the farmers in the district for ensuring fair prices of the staple food.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Helal Hossain formally inaugurated the food procurement programme at a function at Fultola upazila warehouse in the district.

District Food Controller Muhammad Tanvir Rahman, Upazila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Akram Hossain and officials of different government organisations, among others, addressed the function with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Parvin Sultana in the chair.

A total of 132 tonnes of boro paddy will be procured from four unions under Fultola upazila during the current season. Each card holder farmers can sell rice up to 3,000 kg and price has been fixed at Tk 26 per kg. The paddy procurement programme will continue till August 28.

The Department of Agricultural Extension sources said the country has witnessed bumper Boro yield as the government has provided all necessary support including agri-input to the farmers for Boro paddy cultivation.
