MAGURA, Jan 12: Boro seed bed preparation is almost complete in Magura. Favourable weather, smooth supply of power and fertiliser have expedited Boro seed bed preparation in Magura.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura sources informed, they have a target to bring 43,338 hectares of land under Boro cultivation in the district this season with an output target of 1,94,090 tonnes of rice.

About 1,950 hectares of land has already been brought under seed bed preparation.

Though preparation of seed bed was supposed to be completed in the district within January 25, it will be completed within January 15.

Almost every year dense fog hampers and delays Boro seed bed preparation. Though in this winter cold wave swept through different parts of country, Magura was free from the cold wave.

On the other hand the district saw adequate rainfall in the last rainy season. The total rainfall in the district in last rainy season was (May 1 to July 31) was 840 mm.

Due to adequate rainfall, the soil of this district is still wet bringing a boon to seed bed preparation. At the same time Boro growers enjoyed smooth supply of power and urea fertiliser in preparing seed bed. All these have expedited readying of Boro seed beds in Magura.

Minhajul Akter, a farmer of village Amuria under Magura Sadar upazila said, I have a target to bring my 12 bighas of land under Boro cultivation. In the meantime I have completed my seed bed preparing in 24 decimal of land.

Last year I had to prepare my Boro seed bed for tw times as my seed bed faced cold injury due to dense fog the first time. Moreover, I have got urea fertiliser at government fixed rate which at Tk 16 per kg. At the same time smooth supply of power has come as an advantage for the irrigation in my seed beds.

Babrul Hossen, a farmer of village Malgram under Magura Sadar upazila said, we have prepared our Boro seed beds long before compared to last year. Consequently we shall be able to harvest paddy earlier.

Early harvest will help us to get fair price of our paddy, he added.

Magura DAE official Shohrab Hossen said, this year we are going to complete seed bed preparation long before the supposed period.

Congenial weather, smooth supply of power and fertiliser have expedited Boro seed bed preparation in the district, he said.
