Brahmaputra swallows 11 pry schools in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 19 (BSS): A total of eleven government primary schools of three upazilas in the district were devoured by the erosion of the Brahmaputra river during the recent flood.

District primary education officer (DPEO) M Hossain Ali said this in the monthly meeting of the district development coordination committee.

The meeting was held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) on Sunday with DC Abdul Matin in the chair.

Mr Ali said five schools ruined out under Fulchhari upazila, four under Sadar upazila and two others in Sundarganj upazila.

The schools are: Haru Danga Government Primary School, Dhulipata Gover-nment Primary School, Ketkirhat Government Primary School, Zamira Government Primary Sch-ool, Angaridaha Gover-nment Primary School, Chithulia Char Government Primary School, Chithulia Dighar Nutunpara Govern-ment Primary School, Baze Chithulia Government Primary School, Moulavir Char Government Primary School, Uzan Burail Government Primary School and Char Purba Lalchamar Government Primary School.

Considering the interest of the students, the DPEO said now classes of the schools are being held in the home yards of local persons.

Construction of new school buildings depends on availability of land and necessary fund, he further said.
