Bumper mustard production in Tangail this year likely

TANGAIL, Jan 12: Tangail farmers are waiting for a bumper production of mustard in the current season. Unexpected light rainfall on the growing plants will ensure the bumper production of the corp.

Department of Agriculture Extension DAE Tangail officials said, a total of 38,000 hectares of land have been brought under mustard cultivation in all the 12 upazilas of the district with the production target of 43,700 tonnes in the current season.

A farmer Fazlur Rahman, son of Shadu Miah of village Mamudpur under Delduar upazila of the district said, "I have cultivated mustard on 45 decimals of my land and I'm hoping to get around 15 to 20 maunds of crops."

Nargis Akhter, sub-assistant officer of DAE, Tangail said, mustard cultivation requires one or two times light irrigation. Growers of the different districts of the country follow this system but in Tangail mustard growers do not irrigate their fields, but light irrigation ensure more production of the corps.
