Bumper output, fair price make Magura Aman growers delighted

MAGURA, Nov 10: Fortune is smiling upon Aman growers in Magura. Harvesting of the crop has already been started in the district and newly harvested paddy is appearing in the local market .

Bumper production and fair price have sent a wave of joy among the Aman growers in the district.

Department of agricultural extension (DAE) Magura sources informed, they brought 61,585 hectares of land under Aman cultivation this season. A bumper production that is 103,240 metric tonnes of rice are expected to be produced.

Bijoy Sarker, a farmer of village Norihati under Magura sadar upazila said , "This year I brought 04 bighas of land under Aman cultivation. I have got 70 maunds paddy. On the other hand, paddy is now being sold in the local market at tk 950 to 1000 per maund as against Tk 700 last year . In this situation I am expecting a handsome profit from my Aman produce" .

Kamal Shikder, a farmer of village Moghi under Magura sadar upazila said, this year they have got loan on 4 per cent interest as corona incentive. Earlier they took loan from NGO on 12 per cent interest.

Loan on easy condition has come as a boon for Aman growers. Moreover, every year they face acute crisis of labourers for Aman harvesting. But this season availability of labourers and reasonable payment have made Aman harvesting easy and smooth, he added.

On contact, Palli Prokriti ( an agriculture and environment based NGO ) executive director Shafiqur Rahman said, amid corona pandemic Aman growers have achieved bumper production.

At the same time farmers are getting fair price. Actually loan facility as corona incentive has come as a boon for Aman growers , he said. If such incentive continues it will bring a positive impact in turning fortune wheel of farmers, he opined.

When contacted, Magura DAE deputy director Shukanta kumar Paramanik said, now Magura farmers are enjoying Aman production. Bumper production and fair price have made them overjoyed.
