Bus-pick-up van collision leaves four dead in Tangail

TANGAIL, Nov 19 (Agencies): Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a pick-up van at Madhupur in Tangail district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam, 28, son of Akter Ali, Shahjalal Sheikh, 42, son of Abdul Sheikh, Sujon Mia, 25, son of Hekmat Ali and Amzad Hossain, 28, son of Kashem Ali of Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district.

The accident occurred in front of Malauri Government Primary School when a bus of 'Binimoy Paribahan' from Dhaka crashed into a Dhaka-bound pick-up van, leaving the pick-up driver and his helper dead on the spot and two passengers of the vehicle injured.

The injured were taken to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.

Police seized the two accident-ridden vehicles but could not arrest anyone.

Farhana Afroz Jemy, assistant superintendent of Madhupur circle, said the bodies will be handed over to families after completing the legal process.

On the other hand, a man was killed and another was injured in a road accident at Bedgram circle on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Sadar upazila of Gopalganj district.

The deceased was identified as Sadar upazila BRDB chairman Nurul Islam Shikdar, 50, of Sonakur area of the town.

Quoting locals, police said the accident occurred when a truck hit a motorcycle in the area leaving its passenger Nurul Islam dead on the spot.

Injured motorcycle rider Lablu Mia, 50, has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
