Call for becoming more conscientious to save rivers

RANGPUR, Sept 24 (BSS): River rights activists and educationists have laid emphasis on becoming more conscientious to save the rivers and make those pollution-free for better future of the next generations.

Terming rivers as the life-line of a nation, they stressed on creating awareness about importance of ensuring uninterrupted water flow in the rivers to improve environment, bio-diversity, ecology and national economy.

They expressed the view at a discussion organised by Begum Rokeya University unit of the 'Riverine People' at Rangpur Government Girls' High School ground here on Sunday to observe the World Rivers Day-2018 with the theme of 'River is Mother'.

The 'Riverine People' a river rights-based organisation, chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.

Presided over by Headmistress of Rangpur Government Girls' High School Farida Yasmin, former professor of Rangpur Carmichael College Toffael Hossain addressed the discussion as chief guest.

Associate Professor of Begum Rokeya University and Director of the 'Riverine People' Dr Tuhin Wadud, its convener of the university unit Assistant Professor Umar Farooque, Assistant Teachers of the school Dinesh Chandra Roy and Jebunnesa Khanom addressed as special guests.
