NETRAKONA, Nov 14 (BSS): Agriculture specialists of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) on Tuesday stressed the need for introducing a new variety of Boro rice, officially known as BRRI-Dhan-67, replacing the older one for boosting overall rice production.

"The new variety is a stress tolerant rice having higher yield in comparison to the existing rice variety (BRRI-Dhan -28) with similar growth duration", they said.

The views were expressed at a function held at the conference room of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Netrakona.

The agri specialists pointed out that the existing rice variety should be replaced by the new variety as the older rice variety were often attacked by different diseases and insects due to adverse impact of climate change. Besides, changes in soil structures caused heavy loss to the farmers.

International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Bangladesh, organized the function where seeds of BRRI-Dhan -67 were distributed among the local farmers free of cost.
