Chandpur roads full of potholes

Public sufferings mount

CHANDPUR, Aug 13: Local people are suffering much as many roads in the district town have been dilapidated with big potholes developed here and there.

Rainwater has remained stagnant on the run-down roads, disrupting traffic. Now, the sufferings of the elderly people, pregnant women, babies and patients know no bounds.

Chandpur-Cumilla Road, Karim Patwary Road, Muktijoddha Road, Truck Road, Pir Badsha Mia Road, Roy's Road, Roads in Puranbazar, Puranbazar-Dokan Ghar-Sakhua Road have developed many potholes due to heavy rain and lack of proper repair.

Rickshaw-pullers and battery-and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers show reluctance to drive their vehicles on these dilapidated roads and demand higher fares.

Chandpur Municipality Executive Engineer M Shamsuddoha has told the FE, "Very soon the run-down roads will be repaired.''

Chandpur Municipality Mayor Jillur Rahman was not available for comments over phone.

Commuters suffer much as vehicles get stuck in big potholes on the ramshackle roads. The people of Kochua upazila of the district are suffering a lot as a big hole created on a bridge over a canal on Kochua Dakshin Union-Teguria Road in Kochua Upazila.

Most of the people and vehicles are carefully avoiding this road and bridge.

When contacted, Kochua Local Govt Engineering Office's Upazila Engineer Abdul Alim Lytton has said, "We'll repair the bridge soon.''
