Cold injury affects Boro in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Jan 11: Plant disease particularly cold injury affected seedlings in Boro seedbeds in the district as severe cold and foggy weather continuing for weeks.

Amulya Sen, block supervisor of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), said they are advising the farmers to remove dew from the Boro paddy seedlings by using rope or stick in early morning. He also mentioned that farmers were advised to adopt flood Irrigation in the evening and drain out in the morning for Boro seedlings during the sweeping cold.

Abu Alam, a farmer of Itakhola union under Sadar upazila, said he would cultivate Boro in three acres of land but his Boro seedling of 50 decimals of land is threatened by cold injury.

DAE sources said if inclement weather continues further there may be shortage of Boro seedlings in the district.
