Collapsed culvert hampers movement of people

NETRAKONA, Oct 19: A box culvert on the Rangchati-Krishnapur road in the Kalmakanda area of the district had collapsed about three years ago.
Since then, locals have been facing serious problem to their daily movement.
Locals complain that the culvert has been in this state for about the last five years, but no reform initiative has been taken. However, the official said that the culvert will be repaired soon.
Talking to locals, this reporter came to know that in the 21st World Vision Bangladesh built a box culvert on the Rangchati-Krishnapur road. That year, the culvert collapsed in floodwater. People from 12 villages including Raipur, Vishavati, Krishnapur, Burimari, Banikona, Naya Bazar of the upazila are in extreme difficulty, as a result.
Local farmer Haji Abdul Motalib said he has to suffer for transporting the produce.
Hamid, head teacher of Krishnapur Government Primary School, said construction of a new bridge in the place will end the sufferings of the people, including the students.
Local UP member Akkas Ali said the construction of a permanent bridge here would facilitate the students to go to schools and colleges. Transportation of agricultural produces will also be easy.
Kalmakanda upazila engineer Afsar Uddin said a proposal was recently sent to the concerned ministry for the construction of a bridge along with broader road. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved soon, he said.
