Commercial brinjal farming gains popularity

BOGRA, Mar 19: Commercial brinjal cultivation is gaining popularity in the district.
A good number of farmers have attained financial solvency by growing the vegetable on their land.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source said brinjal farming is profitable. The department has provided all necessary support to the growers so that a bumper production can be achieved.
Farmers' sources said they are applying pheromone trap on their cropland to keep the produce fresh and pesticide free. The block supervisors of all unions monitor the
marginal farmers and give suggestion regarding brinjal farming.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said, "We are hopeful of getting a good production this season. Growers are also happy over the market price."
In a visit on Monday the correspondent found the wholesalers are purchasing each maund of vegetable from the farmers directly at Tk 1200 to Tk 1400.
Farmer Yakub Ali of Dawkola village under Sadar upazila said he has achieved over 23 maunds of brinjal from 20 decimals of land and sold all of his produce at Tk 30,000.
