GAIBANDHA, May 04: Lucky Bamboo is being cultivated commercially for the first time in the northern district, as farmers expect to earn huge profits.
Hafiz and Hasibul, two siblings of Panchgachi Shantiram village of Sundarganj Upazila of the district, have started cultivating this bamboo.
The various tubs made of Lucky Bamboo is being exported to different countries in the Middle East.
The two brothers have achieved self-reliance in a short time by earning foreign currencies through the tub exports.
The bamboo is used for various purposes, but this different types of bamboo tree has surprised the people of the area.
Many people think that this bamboo tree is auspicious at home, so many people are used to decorate the house.
Lucky Bamboo is one of the most popular lists of people as an indoor plant to enhance the beauty of the elite home.
Lucky Bamboo is being cultivated commercially as its demand is increasing day by day.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), some farmers in Sundarganj upazila have cultivated Lucky Bamboo on about 6 bighas of land.
Hafiz and Hasibul together cultivated the bamboo on the first fifth century land.
From there, they did not have to look back. Later, they are cultivating three plots on three bighas of land.
Lucky bamboo looks striped white, yellow, green, and dark green. Their exterior design tubs are now going to many countries in the Middle East, including Oman, Qatar and Dubai.
Many people are interested in seeing them. Even local workers are running the family working in the garden of the two brothers.
Entrepreneur Hafiz said he wants to work on a larger scale if he gets assistance from the government.
Gaibandha DAE deputy director Md Khorshed Alam told The Financial Express that some farmers in Sundarganj upazila have cultivated Lucky Bamboo on about 06 bighas of land.
They are getting benefits from cultivating this bamboo. If its farming is expanded, farmers will get benefits. The DAE is giving them regular advice.
