A total of five persons were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram and Bogura districts on Thursday, reports UNB
In Chattogram, three people including two siblings were killed when a bus hit a battery-run autorickshaw from behind in Chattogram's Chandanaish upazila on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 8:30am in Dohazari area when the Chattogram-bound Purabi Paribahan bus rammed the autorickshaw, police said.
The deceased were identified as Wakar Uddin Adil ,12, and Umme Habiba Rizvi ,15, both were students of Dohazari Public School and College and children of Jasim Uddin from Jamijuri while the other victim was Ruhul Amin ,45, the driver of the autorickshaw.
Kazi Fahmida Washima Tushin ,15, a ninth-grade student, sustained critical injuries in the accident.
Officer-in-Charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station Subaranjan Chakma, said they seized the bus but the driver and the helper managed to flee.
Following the accident, enraged locals blocked the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in protest, disrupting vehicular movement in the area.
In Bogura, three motorcyclists were killed when a truck ran over them on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Dharmokam in Sherpur upazila of Bogura district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Naim Islam, 21, son of Badsha Mia, Rifat Rahman, 22, son of Liton and Selim Hosssain, 22, son of Siddique of Koyerkhali village in the upazila.
Quoting witnesses, police said that the accident occurred around 6pm on Wednesday when the truck carrying three friends hit the motorbike carrying three friends as they fell on the road while giving side to a private car, leaving them injured, said Azizul Haque, inspector of Sherpur Police Station.
The injured were taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared Naim dead. Selim and Rifat were referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
