Cultivator, child die in Habiganj lightning strikes

HABIGANJ, Apr 28 (UNB): A farmer and a child were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Nazirpur village in Sadar upazila and Sangor village in Baniachong upazila in the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Dengu Mia, 50, a resident of Nazirpur village and Salma Aktar, 8, daughter of Manfar Mia of Sangor village.

A thunderbolt hit Dengu Mia and his sons while they were harvesting paddy in a haor (water body) beside the village in the afternoon, leaving Dengu severely injured.

Doctors declared Dengu Mia dead when he was taken to a hospital.

Meanwhile, Salma was plucking mangoes while a thunderbolt struck her.

The duty doctors declared her dead when she was taken to a local hospital.
