Cultivators start growing hybrid bamboos

NILPHAMARI, May 23: A good number of farmers have started cultivating hybrid bamboo in different areas of the district.

Unlike traditional bamboo, this new hybrid bamboo are big in size, grow rapidly and more useful. Bangladesh forest research institute invented this crossbred generation new bamboo which has no hard snag in its body.

Sources said the district forests office is now engaged in popularising this new invented bamboo among the farmers across the district.

Deputy director of Domar upazila Regional Bamboo Research Centre Dr Rafiqul Islam said farmers are showing their interest in cultivating newly-invented bamboo across the district.

He said pilot project of this hybrid variety bamboo cultivation has been under taken in all the six upazila of the district which are being popular day by day.

While contacted deputy director of DAE Nilphamari Abul Kashem Azad said cultivation of the new bamboo variety would revolutionize bamboo production in the country.

Azizar Rahman of Ketkibari union of Domar upazila said he planted 10 bamboo saplings last year which are about to be matured. He said the neighbours are also doing the same.
