DAE expects to produce over 0.1m bales of jute in Bogura

BOGURA, July 7: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to produce over 0.1 million bales of jute output if the weather behaves gentle with the crops in Bogura district.

The farmers and officials concerned said moderate rainfall is blessing for the crops and it will boost the fresh production across the district. The farmers are seen happy for healthy growing of the crops.

Excellent growing of the jute fibre is predicting a bumper production this season, said Sub Assistance Agriculture Officer Faridur Rahman. It has also supplied high quality of jute seeds, fertilisers among the farmers at a cost of free, he added.

In a recent visit at the field level the correspondent found the tender plants are growing excellent in Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Gabtoly, Sariakandi, Sonatola, Nandigram, Sherpur, Shajahanpur, Shibganjn and sadar upazilas of the district. The harvest enterprise of the fibre crop will begin from the middle of this month in the region.

Tosha, Mechta and indigenous variety of jute fibre are gaining momentum across the district due to its good market price and bumper yield. It grows mostly in the low lying crop land as the water remains logging full of the season.

Farmer Aminul Islam said that jute cultivation is increasing in Sonatola, Nandigram, Sherpur, Shajahanpur and sadar upazilas of the district as farmers are getting fair price of jute. Now a days the jute is being use making sack, small bag, clothes, caps as well as others daily necessaries, he added.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said they were taking proper care of growing tender jute plants on their fields with a hope of bumper output. DAE has also given modern technology training to the farmers for boosting jute production, he added.
