CUMILLA, Sept 28: Students’ sufferings have intensified at Cumilla University (CU) as the authorities are yet to make arrangement of required volume of answer sheets for the examinations.

Thousands of students are facing problems due to the shortage of answer sheets in the examinations. They are not getting enough paper to answer questions in the examinations.

The crisis is extending the semester duration of the students, creating possibility of session jam too.

Some students of the eighth batch of the Marketing Department alleged that they had a midterm exam on September 25 but suddenly they heard that there was no answer sheet in the department. Later, they had to purchase paper from the shop and attended the exams.

The same situation is prevailing at other departments also.

Sources attributed the crisis to non-supply of answer sheets from the examination controller's office.

The sources blamed shortage of the midterm exam answer sheets at the office of the examination controller.

There are six batches running in almost every department. At least 3,600 answer sheets per batch are required to take the midterm tests. But only 200 to 500 answer sheets are being given. This makes it difficult to hold exams on schedule.

President of University Teachers' Association Shamimul Islam said, "I've heard about the matter that there is a shortage of answer sheets in the university. There is a temporary problem with the new answer sheet purchase process. So the departments are not getting answer sheets as per demand."

Mohammad Nurul Karim Chowdhury, examination controller of the university, said, "We've not yet received the answer sheets allocated for the new fiscal year. I've heard there was a problem with tender for answer sheets."

"We are printing midterm answer sheets for the departments to solve the problem temporarily. But we can't provide answer sheets just as per the demand. We are making efforts so that exams do not get obstructed."

According to the university sources, the answer sheets purchased in the 2018-19 financial year ran out long time ago.

Three months of the 2019-20 fiscal year have already gone by but new answer sheets have not been arranged yet.

The tender process for procurement of answer sheets has not been completed yet.

CU Registrar (Additional responsibility) Prof Md Abu Taher said, "We have a crisis of answer sheets. Tender was floated once for purchase of answer sheets. However, there was a little problem, due to which, tender notification will be given again within next two to three days. Every week 25,000 answer sheets are provided to solve the problem."
