Rajshahi, June 10: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has launched a two-week special programme to prevent the spread of dengue, including cleanliness drives, fogger machine pesticide spraying, and larvicide treatment, starting on Wednesday.

RCC Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated the initiative by spraying pesticides.

Speaking on the occasion, the RCC Administrator said, "We are working relentlessly to build a clean city and provide efficient citizen services, following the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Various measures have been taken to prevent dengue. From today, a special two-week cleanliness drive and fogger machine spraying programme will be conducted across the city."

He added that a public awareness rally on dengue prevention had been held on June 6, and RCC's efforts to control the disease will continue.

Urging residents to participate, he said, "Although dengue is a serious mosquito-borne disease, it can be prevented through awareness and collective action.

Keep your yards and surroundings clean to ensure a dengue-free Rajshahi. Avoid water accumulation in flower pots, broken utensils, abandoned tires, tin cans, and coconut shells. Destroy mosquito breeding grounds wherever possible."

He concluded, "Together, we can build Rajshahi into a clean, beautiful, and healthy city." The inauguration was attended by RCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Rezaul Karim, Chief Cleaning Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun, Chief Health Officer F.A.M. Anjuman Ara Begum, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Selim Reza Ranju, and other officials of the RCC Cleaning Department.

According to RCC's cleanliness department, fogger machine spraying is being carried out in slabs, drains, underground drains, ponds, jungles, and other mosquito breeding sites across 30 wards of the city.

Under the department's work plan, pesticides will be sprayed in five wards daily from June 10 to June 23, 2026. On Tuesday, a special central fogger spraying operation will be conducted in government and semi-government offices, educational institutions, service centers, and other key locations across the metropolis.
