Elephant found dead in Chakaria tobacco field

COX'S BAZAR, Feb 12: Forest Department officials have recovered an elephant's carcass from a tobacco field at Chakaria upazil in Cox's Bazar district on Wednesday morning.

The officials said that the elephant aged between 42 to 45 years was male.

According to locals, the elephant died in an electric trap set to protect the tobacco field. However, the officials said that the matter can be confirmed after the autopsy.

Divisional Forest Officer of the Cox's Bazar North Forest Division, Md. Maruf Hossain, said that no signs of injury were found on the elephant's body. Forest department personnel and doctors are at the scene to look into the matter.

He further said, "The elephant is undergoing an autopsy. The actual reason of death can be known after getting the autopsy report."
