Ensuring nutrition for mothers, children underscored

GAIBANDHA, Nov 10 (BSS): Speakers in a function here stressed the need for ensuring nutrition for all particularly the poor mothers and the children including the adolescent ones to build a healthy nation.

As nutrition is the essential factor for the human body, there is no alternative to ensure nutrition for all the mothers and the children, they said.

They came up with the comments while addressing a monthly meeting of Fulchhari Upazila Nutriton Coordination Committee held at the conference room of Upazila Parishad in the district on Monday.

Upazila administration arranged the function in cooperation with Sustained Opportunities for Nutrition Governance (SONGO) project being implemented here by RDRS Bangladesh and ICCO Cooperation with the financial support of European Union.

Presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abu Raihan Dolon, the meeting was also addressed among others by upazila chairman GM Selim Parvez, upazila agriculture officer Fatema Kawsar Mishu, upazila livestock officer Abul Kalam Shamsuddin, sub-assistant engineer of department of public health engineering Atikur Rahman, assistant upazila education officer SM Kamruzzaman, journalist Shah Alam Jadu, project coordinator Ashraful Alam and advisor Shamim Alam.

The speakers in their speeches said as the country had achieved food security, the matter to ensure nutrition for all would have to be thought seriously considering the public interest.

GM Selim Parvez urged the officials who are the members of the committee to be more serious and active to make the project a grand success.

Almost all the members of the committee took part in the meeting.
