SYLHET, Oct 06 (UNB): Around ten kilometres of land along the Surma and Lova rivers in Kanaighat upazila has fallen in the risk of erosion.
The embankment along the Surma river and number of houses adjacent to it are being battered by the flow of the river water.
Victims of the locality formed a 10-kilometer-long human chain along the banks of Surma and Lova rivers around 10.00 am on Saturday demanding immediate measures by the concerned authorities to prevent the erosion.
The speakers at the human chain urged the government to build a 10-kiliometer long embankment within shortest possible time.
President of River Erosion Prevention Committee Advocate Abdul Rahim, Kanaighat upazila council Chairman Ashik Uddin Chowdhury, among others, took part in the programme.
