Experts for adopting latest vegetable production technology

RANGPUR, Mar 17 (BSS): Experts at two separate

functions here have stressed adopting latest technologies to produce quality breeder

seeds for increasing production of the traditional and high-priced vegetables evolved by Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI).

They laid special emphasis on using latest technologies for production, preservation and utilisation of breeder seeds of BARI-evolved vegetables like potato, tomato, cauliflower, barley, broccoli, French bean, bean, lettuce, pumpkin, capsicum, brinjal, BT brinjal, spinach and pheasant to increase production and earn maximum profits.

The Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) organised the two separate farmers' field day events at its Burirhat Farm in the city on Thursday and Friday, a press release said here today.

The field day events were arranged under the 'Strengthening Research on Horticultural Crops and Dissemination of Horticultural and Field Crop Technology at Charland Areas' project of BARI to introduce and popularise technologies for breeder seed production and cultivation of BARI-evolved vegetables.

One-hundred male and female farmers of Sadar and Gangachara upazilas attended the events.

Chief Scientific Officer of RARS of BARI Md Rais Uddin Chowdhury attended the first event on 'Breeder Seed Production Technologies' as the chief guest on Thursday with its Principal Scientific Officer Dr Md Badiuzzaman in the chair.

On Friday, Regional Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Shah Alam attended the second event on 'Introduction of Vegetable Varieties and Production Technologies' as the chief guest with Md Rais Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
