Female expats from Gaibandha on the rise

GAIBANDHA, Mar 13: Gaibandha is the name of Manga Kablit area in the northern region. Men and women are migrating abroad as no industry has been established in this district. The number of women expatriates is also increasing day by day.

As the number of women expatriates increases, they are reporting the ability to earn foreign exchange alongside men. As a result, 28,257 people went abroad for work in the last 5 years.

According to Gaibandha District Employment and Jano Shakti Office sources, a total of 28,257 people have gone abroad legally in the last 5 years. Among them, the number of men is 25,911 and the number of women is 2,346.

From 2020 to 2024: 2020 males 759 and females 143, 2021 men 2172 and women 413, 2022 men 4,749 and women 547, 2023 9,645 males and 541 females and 2024 8,586 males and 711 females.

Hafizur Rahman Babu, chairman of the Gaibandha Entrepreneurs Forum, told The Financial Express that many people want to go abroad but fail because of lack of technical knowledge.

Therefore, if proper training is arranged in rural areas, the number of people going abroad will increase, he said.

Principal of Gaibandha Technical Training Center (TTC) Abdur Rahim told The Financial Express, "We do not have the house keeping training that is given for going abroad in our Gaibandha TTC. But, we have 22 trainings going on."

Assistant Director of Gaibandha District Employment and Manpower Office Md Nesharul Haque told The Financial Express, "We do public and private campaigns to make people interested in going abroad legally so that no one gets cheated by brokers."

"There are now safe working arrangements for women. Those who want to go abroad can easily go abroad through training if they contact us."
