MAGURA, May 21: Magura BINA office has recently organised a field-day on BINA-14 rice variety in Moghi village under Magura Sadar upazila.

Official sources said BINA-14 paddy is short-duration crop. It takes around 20 days less to be harvested than the other Boro varieties. Around 6.9 tonnes of paddy are produced on a hectare of land.

The variety requires less urea and is less vulnerable to insect attack.

Some BINA official said price of BINA-14 paddy is higher than other Boro varieties.

If the cultivation of the variety expands across the country, around 1.8 million tonnes of additional rice could be produced during Boro season.

BINA Director General Dr Biresh Kumar Goshwami was the chief guest at the field-day, while BINA scientific officer Shampa Rani Ghosh moderated the event.
