Five Debidwar doctors face action for absence in hospital

June 03, 2026 00:00:00

The District Civil Surgeon's Office in Cumilla has issued show-cause notices to five doctors for being absent at a government hospital, reports bdnews24.com.

The decision comes hours after Cumilla-4 MP Md Abul Hasnat, well known as Hasnat Abdullah, made a surprise visit to the Debidwar Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday.

During the inspection in the morning, Hasnat ordered action to be taken against the absentees.

Civil Surgeon Ali Noor Mohammad Bashir Ahmed said. "The doctors were required to be present at work on time. They breached the rule. I heard that the local MP went there and found them absent.

"Letters are being sent to them to explain why they did not report on time. The matter will be reported to the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services."

Upazila Health and Family Welfare Officer Md Mohibus Salam Khan said the doctors have been asked to respond to the notices within the next three working days.

The MP arrived at the health facility at 09:00 am without prior announcement, visiting several departments and inquiring about the medical services.

After noticing that five out of 26 doctors were absent without prior approval during their regular shift, Hasnat expressed his resentment.

During his one-and-a-half-hour visit, Hasnat talked to doctors, officials, employees, and patients.

Mentioning he found some irregularities, the National Citizen Party leader said: "The Upazila health officer will brief doctors about their daily activities at 7:45am every day and send me the attendance sheet of that meeting.

"Those who failed to provide a satisfactory response to the show-cause notices will face administrative action."

Hasnat urged doctors and relevant officials to work responsibly to further improve the hospital's medical services.
