Five to die in Laxmipur, two get life term in Rangpur

A Laxmipur court has sentenced five people to death for the murder of a farmer and a Rangpur court has sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment on Wednesday and Tuesday, report agencies.

bdnews24.com reports from Laxmipur, a Laxmipur court has sentenced five people to death and three to life in prison for the murder of farmer Akbar Hossain in Raipur upazila.

District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Rahibul Islam announced the verdict on Wednesday, said Public Prosecutor Jasim Uddin.

The death row convicts are Jasim Uddin, Nur Mia, Shafiqur Rahman, Md Towhir Hossain and Md Rubel Hossain.

The court handed life sentences to Jewel, Rahela Begum and Moktar Hossain.

Three other suspects were acquitted.

Jewel and Moktar Hossain were absconding when the verdict was announced.

Akbar Hossain, a farmer from Charbangshi Union in Raipur Upazila was hacked to death on September 07, 2018, said lawyer Manzur Jilani, who represented the prosecution. Later, Akbar's son Tahirul Islam filed a case over the murder.

Police submitted charges against 11 people in the case on October 09, 2019.

BSS from Rangpur says: a court here has sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment for murdering farmer Bachcha Mian alias Boga in village Chamrapara of Taraganj upazila in the district some eight years ago.

Judge of the Senior District and Sessions Judge Court of Rangpur Md. Shahenur handed down the verdict in the presence of the convicts in the courtroom on Tuesday afternoon.

The court also fined convicts Hafizar Rahman and Mantu Mian, residents of the same village, Taka 10,000 each. The prosecution says that the convicts had a long-term dispute over land with farmer Bachcha Mian in Chamrapara village of Hariarkuthi union in Taraganj upazila.

On the night of January 21, 2014, the accused called the farmer and took him away from his house promising him to settle the dispute amicably.

But, farmer Boga never returned home.

Accused Hafizar Rahman and Mantu Mia mercilessly beat farmer Boga to death and left his body in the kitchen of his house.

Delwara Begum, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case in this connection with Taraganj police station against the accused persons.
