Flood damages vegetables, crops on 13,500 hectares in Tangail district

TANGAIL, July 24: Vegetables and crops on about 13,500 hectares of land in six upazilas of the district have already been damaged by the ongoing flood.

The district administration sources said the overflowing Jamuna has inundated Bhuapur, Kalihati, Tangail Sadar, Nagorpur, Ghatail and Dhanbari upazilas.

Local sources said T-Aman seedbeds and jute, Aus and Aman paddy fields are affected seriously.

According to the DAE office sources, 447 hectares of jute field, Aus paddy on 1,372 hectares, 625 hectares T-Aman seedbeds, Aman paddy on 487 hectares and vegetables on 1,045 hectares have been damaged by the floodwater.

Besides, 25 hectares of banana field have also been affected.

Some affected farmers said, "The authority concerned should take immediate steps so that we can recover our losses soon."
