Focus on social harmony for country's uplift

RAJSHAHI, Jan 15 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion have stressed the need for working together of political leaders to maintain social and communal harmony for overall development of the country.

They said maintaining social harmony is of paramount importance for institutionalisation of democracy with ensuring good governance everywhere in the society.

They came up with the observation at a view-sharing meeting styled "Peoples against Violence in Election" held at Paba upazila council auditorium in the district on Sunday.

Regional office of The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organised the meeting in association with 'Strengthening Political Landscape (SPL) Project', Democracy International, USAID and UKAID.

On the occasion, local unit presidents of Bangladesh Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party and Workers Party of Bangladesh signed a code of conduct towards establishing social harmony in the society.

With Nawhata Pourasava Mayor Mokbul Hossain in the chair, Upazila Awami League President Yeasin Ali, Upazila Jatiya Party President Abdul Malek and Upazila Vice-Chairman Ashraful Haque addressed the meeting.

SPL Regional Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul and District Coordinator Shashanka Boron Roy and Journalists Kazi Nazmul Islam and Sohel Mahbub also spoke.

Mokbul Hossain said the positive role of all quarters including the political leaders is vital for maintaining peace and social harmony for overall development of the nation.

He urged all irrespective of cast, creed, religion, male and female to come forward and work together to make peaceful country in where everyone can enjoy their democratic rights.
