Gaibandha farmers get bumper mustard yield

GAIBANDHA, Mar 03: Farmers of the district have achieved the bumper production of BARI-14 mustard this season.
Farmers said they cultivate mustard every year, but this year BARI-14 variety has produced extensively in different places of the district.
This season, mustard production is higher than other seasons' in the district, they added.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Gaibandha, this season mustard has been cultivated on 16,554 hectares of land in this district.
Gaibandha Sadar upazila has 1,730 hectares in Sadar upazila, 612 hectares in Fulchhari upazila, 2,280 hectares in Saghata upazila, 2,120 hectares in Sadullapur upazila, 1,030 hectares in Palashbari upazila, 2,629 hectares in Sundarganj upazila 6,153 hectares in Gobindaganj upazila.
Farmers cultivate mustard every year as an extra crop before cultivating the IRRI-Boro paddy.
Mustard cultivation does not require too much care or cost. So, many farmers are dreaming of earning more profits due to the bumper yield of BARI-14 mustard at a lower cost.
"We cultivate mustard cultivation as an additional crop. The cultivation of this crop does not require much care. And the income comes higher at a low cost. So, we are cultivating mustard every year," many a farmer said.
Gaibandha DAE Deputy Director Md Khorshed Alam told The Financial Express that they provided seeds and fertilisers to farmers to encourage farmers in cultivating mustard.
