Farmers busy harvesting watermelons from a field in Manikkar char of Fazlupur union under Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha district- FE Photo GAIBANDHA, Apr 09: Farmers have achieved a good production of watermelon in the char areas of the district this year.
Sources said there are 185 chars in all four upazilas of this district where farmers have cultivated watermelon excessively this season.
Farmers are harvesting watermelon from fields and sending them to different districts.
Farmers and agriculturists said weather is suitable for watermelon cultivation in the char areas of Gaibandha.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), watermelon has been cultivated on 22
hectares of land in different char areas of the district.
Manikkar Char of Fazlupur Union of Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha is seen that farmers are busy harvesting watermelon fields.
Watermelon farmers said the yield was good as weather was suitable for watermelon production. They have cultivated watermelon. They have already got high prices of watermelon.
Khorshed Alam, deputy director of the Gaibandha DAE, told the Financial Express that watermelon was
cultivated on 22 hectares of land in different char areas of the district.
Farmers are showing interest in watermelon cultivation as both
soil and weather are suitable for watermelon cultivation on the
riverbanks in the district.
