NAOGAON, Oct 12: Due to shortage of classrooms, the students of Ghosgram Kofilia High School under Raninagar upazila in the district are attending classes and examinations under the open sky.
The school was set up in the Ghosgram area in Gona union of the upazila around seven decades ago.
Many children from Ghosgram, Betgram, Bhobanypur, Lakshipur, Malanchi, Pirera, Krisnapur, Andharkothat, Kalikapur, Ataikula, Kashimpur, Kuzail, Sorborampur and Chapra villages of the upazila are the students of the school.
The school authority has already declared all the seven classrooms, one office room and a common room as abundoned due to shabby condition. To finish the syllabus timely, the upazila education office urged the teachers to continue their classes under the open sky.
A good number of students said, "We are also suffering for lack of toilet, pure drinking water and laboratory facilities."
"If the government takes immediate step to construct a building the students will get a good environment for making good result in the upcoming SSC examinations," they further said.
The students are to attend the examinations and classes braving the heat of the sun and rain. Member of the school have already informed the higher authorities of the matter for allocation of fund for construction of a new building.
"We have around 255 students. Shortage of classroom is hampering academic activities badly. Sometimes it becomes difficult for the students to attend the open-sky class for heavy rain and heat of the sun," he added.
He urged the higher authority to take steps to build a new school building as soon as possible.
President of the school Abul Hasnat Khan said, "We have send letter to the higher authority several times for constructing a school building but did not get any response yet."
Upazila education officer Abdul Jalil said they submitted recommendation papers for some school buildings including Ghosgram Kofilia High School. The work will be started after getting fund.
