Gopalganj eyes bumper Boro yield

GOPALGANJ, Feb 13: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a massive programme to grow Boro paddy in Gopalganj Sadar during the current season.
Sources said a total of 19,400 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation with a production target of 1,94,000 tonnes.
Md Mizanur Rahman, upazila agriculture officer of Gopalganj Sadar says a special initiative have been taken for growing SL8H, a high yielding Boro variety to produce a good quality and quantity of paddy this season.
Modern methods have been applying in the Boro field to make the programme a success, the official said.
Ibrahim Sheikh, farmer of Digharkul village under Sadar upazila, said, "I am growing Boro SL8H on two bighas of land this season spending Tk 40,000. I expect to get around 100 maunds of production this season."
Prodhyut Biswas, another farmer of Raghunathpur Charpara village under Sadar upazila said he has cultivated Boro on one bigha of land. Around 50 to 52 maunds of production can be achieved from the land.
Some local farmers said farming of SL8H Boro paddy is profitable due to its low production cost.
The Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) provided quality seeds to the growers to achieve the desire output.
