Gopalganj eyes massive Boro farming

GOPALGANJ, Dec 10: Boro farmers in five upazilas of the district are now busy preparing their cropland to cultivate the paddy.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gopalganj farmers have taken a programme for Boro farming.

Nearly 81,663 hectares of land have been brought into Boro cultivation this season. About 188,788 farmers will be engaged in this paddy farming, sources said.

The Agriculture Office in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila has distributed 18.18 tonnes of Hybrid and HYV Boro seeds among 10,000 farmers.

According to Muksudpur Upazila Agriculture Office, they distributed 12.36 tonnes (13,600 kg.) of Hybrid and HYV Boro seeds among 6,800 Boro farmers, sources said.

Sources at Kasiani Upazila Agriculture Office said some 6,000 farmers out of total 29,950 in Kasiani upazila get this seeds. According to Kotalipara Upazila Agriculture Office, they distributed 22.54 tonnes of Boro seeds among 12,400 farmers in the upazila.

But, each farmer has got 02 kg of hybrid and HYV Boro seeds from local agriculture office. Sources at Tungipara Upazila Agriculture Office said they distributed 9.6 tonnes of hybrid and high yielding Boro seeds among 4,800 farmers in the upazila.

Abdul Kadir Sarder, deputy director, agriculture in Gopalganj, told the FE that they distributed 72.72 tonnes of hybrid and high yielding Boro seeds among 40,000 farmers in the district.
