High demand for OMS flour in Magura district

MAGURA, Mar 24: Flour under the Open Market Sale (OMS) is in high demand in the district.

The district food office sources said they started OMS of flour from July 26. Five dealers were deployed to supply the item in the municipality area.

Under the programme, a dealer gets one tonne of flour per day while a consumer can purchase it highest 5.0 kg at Tk 18 per kg.

Balai Chandra Kuri, an OMS dealer of Puratan Bazar area, said, "We sell flour at Tk 18 per kg while it is Tk 28 per kg in the local market."

He urged the authority concerned to increase the number of dealers to ensure smooth supply of flour to the locals.

Farmer Matin Mollah of Defulia village under Magura Sadar said there is no OMS dealer in his ward. He has to collect the OMS flour from the dealer which is about 5.0 km away from his house.

"More dealers should be appointed in this regard", he added.

District food controller Sheikh Moinul Islam also admitted that the number of dealers is insufficient to fulfil market demand.

He further said, "We have sent a proposal to the higher authority to increase the number of dealers."
