NATORE, Jan 7: Hundreds of poor and marginal peasants are expecting eye catching lentil output in Natore district in this current season as the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has provided measure facilities among the eager farmers.
DAE has fixed a target to bring some 24,820 hectares of land in this season hoping for 12,890 tonnes of fresh production but the farmers have brought some 14,790 hectares due to adverse weather condition during the time of sowing seed.
Sub-assistance Agriculture Officer Abul Basar said, the peasants of the region is showing more interest to bring new crop land under lentil cultivation in this current season as they had made a good profit in previous year due to its lucrative market price.
The farmers of Boraigram, Gurudaspur, Lalpur, Bagatipara and sadar upazilas of the district are passing worried time from the last week as dense fog is prevailing. The mild crops may be affected with different pest attack.
"I have cultivated lentil on 23 decimal spending Tk 4,500 hoping for better output in this season," said farmer Abdullah Al Kafi, 23, under Bagatipara upazila of the district. "Rough weather is making the peasants much worried." he added.
Deputy Director (DD) Rafiqul Islam of DAE said, "We have ensured all support among the eager farmers to make the programme a grand success. The sub-assistance agriculture officers of all blocks are monitoring root level cropsland," he added.
