Import, export through Benapole, Hili land ports stay shut for Durga Puja

JHENIDAH, Oct 05: Due to the suspension of work by the Petrapole Customs Clearing and Forwarding Association and Indian truck drivers on the occasion of Durga Puja, import and export activities has remained suspended through Benapole Land Port for five days.

The last consignments from India entered Bangladesh on Thursday.

From Friday to Tuesday there will be no loading and unloading of goods at Petrapole land port, halting the import and export activities at the Benapole port.

According to Benapole Land Port authorities, the deliveries of all types of goods will continue.

However, for weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday and public holiday (Bijoya Doshami) on Tuesday activities here at the port will remain suspended.

Import and export activities at Petrapole will resume on Wednesday.

An Assistant Commissioner, Customs House, Benapole land port said the collection of revenue will be a bit less during those days on the occasion of Durga Puja.

But entry and exit of travellers through Benapole immigration terminal will continue. The immigration centre here is seeing a rush of visitors, he added.

Meanwhile, UNB from Hili (Dinajpur) adds: the export and import activities through Hili land port here will remain closed for seven days from Saturday due to Durga Puja.

Exporter and Customs Clearing Agents Association Secretary Sanjit Majumder said they have decided to shut trade through the port from October 5 to 11.

However, the movement of passport-holder travellers through the check-post will continue as usual, said immigration check post officer-in-charge Md Rafikuzzaman.

Revenue officer Noor Amin of Hili Customs Station said the customs office will remain closed only on the day of Bijoya Dashami (Tuesday).
