BENAPOLE, Oct 21: Import and export trade between Bangladesh and India will remain suspended for four days from October 23 due to the upcoming Durga Puja through Benapole Port.
As a result, Benapole, the country's largest land port, is falling into the holiday trap.
Although import and export have suspended, all the activities of Benapole Port and Customs House have remained normal.
Due to the Puja holiday, there may be a shortage of raw materials in many industries in Bangladesh.
However, loading ,unloading of goods , Custom House and Port and passenger movement between Bangladesh and India will remain normal during this holiday.
Kartik Chakraborty, General Secretary, C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association of Petrapole Port in India said due to Durga Puja, all types of import-export trade with Benapole port will be closed from October 23 to October 26 in India. Import-export trade will start from next Tuesday (October 27) morning.
Emdadul Haque Lata, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Agents Association, said
the import-export trade will be closed for four consecutive days due to Durga Puja through Petrapole port, according to a letter from Indian port users .
Benapole Customs Deputy Commissioner Belal Hossain said import-export between the two countries would be suspended from the morning of October 23 to October 26 due to the Durga Puja holiday on the Indian side. Even if import-export is stopped, loading-unloading and customs, port activities will continue, he added. He said imports and exports between the two countries would resume from the morning of October 27.
Every day 300 to 400 truck loads of goods are imported from India through Benapole port.
Eighty per cent of the raw materials and various food items of the industrial establishments are imported through this port.
