International Day for Disaster Reduction observed in districts

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Oct 13: International Day for Disaster Reduction was observed in Chapainawabganj on Monday. Chapainawabganj district administration arranged a rally and a gathering on the occasion.

The rally was brought out from the deputy commissioner's office premises which paraded through the main roads of the town and it ended at the same venue. At the end of the rally deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Zahangir Kabir addressed the gathering. Among others, deputy director of Local Government (LG) Ashraful Islam, district relief and rehabilitation officer Matiur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer of Chapainawabganj sadar Mirza Shakila Dil Hasin, executive director of ASSEDO Robiul Alom.

Another message from Our Khulna Correspondent says: International Day for Disaster Reduction-2014 was observed in Khulna as elsewhere in the country amid rallies, discussion meeting and procession on Sunday. The day also observed in Bagerhat and Satkhira.  

This year, the Disaster Reduction Day is being celebrated under the theme, "Resilience is for Life".

To mark the day, Khulna district administration arranged a colourful procession from Khulna Circuit House which paraded through the main roads of the city and concluded at Officers Club premises.

A good number of government and non-government officials, political leaders, NGO personalities, civil society members, city elites, journalists and a large number of city dwellers participated in the procession with placards to create awareness among the people about how to reduce disaster risk.
